Amidst the neon and grey, the many stories about 1989/90 and the East – with all its contradictions and conflicts – shimmer. Pop culture tells these stories: in gangsta rap from East Berlin, in novels set in the Brandenburg countryside, and in films about new beginnings and broken dreams.

NEON/GRAU brings these stories together and creates a dialogue between them – about freedoms and losses, belonging and exclusion, youth and violence, rural areas and gender relations.

The event is taking place in cooperation with LSVD Saxony and forms part of the series “QUEER AFTER 2025 – Chemnitz Remains Visible”, funded by the hms Foundation.
