Windows 11 does not work on your device? We (Chaos Computer Club Chemnitz) will help you to install Linux and get your laptop.

Core: Windows 10 is no longer supplied with updates – in other words, it is at the end of its life. But many computers, although still good, are not “technically” suitable for Windows 11. Microsoft wants to promote the sale of new computers. But what if you could make “old” computers fast and secure again?

For computers sold after 2010, there is probably no reason to dispose of them. If you simply install an up-to-date Linux operating system, they can continue to be used for years to come.

Installing an operating system may seem complicated at first. But don’t worry, we can help! We at the Chaos Computer Club Chemnitz and related organisations will be happy to help you install Linux on your “old” treasures and preserve your data.

We’ll start at 4 pm with a talk explaining what Linux can do, what it looks like and what the end of life of Windows 10 is all about. We will also talk about data migration and how to make a backup.

We will provide test computers on which you can try out two Linux desktops (KDE Mint).

If you feel like it: We have some USB sticks with different Linux distributions on them. Helpers are available to install Linux on your laptop with you. Data loss may occur in the process.
