Book launch for the illustrated book *Durch Fotografie keine Einsichten*
in collaboration with Lessing und Kompanie

Durch Fotografie keine Einsichtenis a collaborative project between inmates at Chemnitz Prison and students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

As part of the book launch, Luisa Hörning, Marleen Kölmel, Tarek Rishmawi and Pio Rahner will discuss the ‘No Insights Through Photography’ project and the individual works. Ossian Osborne will provide insights into the book’s design.

About the project:

Durch Fotografie keine Einsichten” explores the question of whether it is possible to make the lives and work of female prisoners visible beyond outrage, sensationalism and a voyeuristic gaze. It approaches this question through the medium of photography.
The otherwise hidden everyday life within Chemnitz Prison is brought to the outside world. It is not the prison in its function or the execution of the sentence that is shown, but rather what happens between people when they encounter one another. The result is three photographic series, each of which engages with the inner world of Chemnitz Prison in a different way . The photographs capture moments, fragments and nuances of everyday prison life. They focus on the ordinary. It is the prisoners who knowthe spaces, moments and routines andwho, drawing on their daily lives, describe the world of the prison.
In the book, the photographs are complemented by statements from the inmates involved in the project —Anis, Moni, Chrisi, Pop, Löckchen and Art—as well as a text by Susanne Koch (art therapist, Chemnitz Prison) and Pio Rahner (former artistic collaborator, Bauhaus University Weimar). The visible signs of wear and tear bear witness to the many people and organisations involved in the process.
